LV Detuned Capacitor Banks
LV Detuned capacitor banks which are simply reactive power compensators which are used to improve the power factor of the system. Low lagging power factor is one of the major power quality issue in industries. It increases the network losses due to the fact that machines operates in low lagging power factor draws more current and results in greater voltage drop and heat losses. To avoid the effects due to low power factor, the power factor of the system must be improved. Industries have to maintain good power factor in the power network ideally >0.95 lag as stipulated by the Utility. There are certain standard methods to improve the power factor of the system. Detuned capacitors banks are the economical and effective way to improve the power factor.
The power factor of the system is monitored and data logged for a certain period, and detailed analysis is carried to determine whether the system power factor is above 0.95 lag or within the standard limit stipulated by the utility or not. If the system power factor found below the limits, the required reactive power for power factor compensation is calculated and LV Detuned capacitor banks are designed and recommended.
