Power Quality Study
Power quality study is a general term used to address a wide variety of electro-magnetic phenomena that creates disturbances to the power system. It may be defined as the ability of an equipment or system to function satisfactorily in its electromagnetic environment. The reason for power quality distortion can be natural (lightning), manmade (switching surges) or load related, faults or harmonic distortion. IEEE 519-2014 Standard is the mostly referred international standard when it comes to power quality and harmonics.
The major power quality study problems observed at site are listed below :
- Harmonics
- Slow voltage changes
- Voltage Sags or Dips (≤ 1min)
- Short Interruptions (≤ 3min)
- Accidental long interruptions (> 3min)
- Temporary over voltages
- Transient over-voltages
- Voltage unbalance
- Low lagging Power factor
Power quality solution or power quality analysis is carried out to identify the power quality related problems prevailing in the site. Using power quality analyser and software the time of occurrence, duration, magnitude and patterns of various power quality events can be analysed graphically. With help of the analysis and onsite industrial experience, our engineers can provide detailed power quality analysis in a technical report which contains recommendations and solutions to improve power quality of the network.
