Infrared Thermography Survey
Thermography is a method of inspecting electrical and mechanical equipment by obtaining heat distribution pictures. An infrared camera can measure the thermal energy and map the temperature differences of the object. Thermographic survey in an electrical installation can identify hot-spots that typically indicate any over-heating, deterioration, insulation failures, loose-contact, etc. Thermographic survey of electrical installations basically covers electrical switchgear, bus-bar joints, cable termination points, circuit breakers, fuses, equipment’s, etc.
A thermographic survey always helps to identify and protect an electrical installation from unwanted failures and burn-outs.
Benefits of thermography include :
- Identifying defects, over-heating/hot-spots, loose-connections, insulation failures, etc in electrical installations.
- Discovering defects in pipes, metals and plastic parts with temperature variances.
- Finding hidden defects and material wear at an early stage.
- Detecting corrosion damage and flaw detection.
- Measuring and observing areas that are inaccessible or hazardous for other non-destructive testing methods.
- Does not affect the production process.
- Detecting problems in real time.
- Much recommended for critical infrastructures like data centers, process industries, airports, etc where thermography is carried out as part of yearly preventive maintenance works to avoid downtime and early detection of defects and failures.
